The OUHK announced that at the Council meeting on 16 March, the reappointment of Prof. Yuk-Shan Wong as President for a term of 3 years, starting from 1 April 2018 to 31 March 2021, was approved.
Prof. Yuk-Shan Wong has served as OUHK President since 1 April 2014. Mr Michael Wong, Chairman of the Council, commended Prof. Wong for his far-reaching efforts in the last 3 years. He said, "I am very pleased to see the rapid development of OUHK under the leadership of Prof. Wong. Apart from enhancing its academic standing and the quality of teaching and learning as well as establishing a number of research institutes, ample resources have been directed towards student affairs to strengthen our support and services for students, in order to establish a better learning environment."
Mr Wong further added that OUHK is mainly divided into two streams: part-time distance learning and full-time face-to-face learning. The mission of distance learning is 'Education for All' while full-time education is to nurture talents. Looking ahead, he hopes that the University can capitalize on its existing strengths and continue to grow and excel. He said OUHK has recently been granted a site on Sheung Shing Street for developing the new Nursing and Healthcare Complex, which will be the home to a suite of healthcare and education-related programmes to cope with the future manpower needs of our society.
"This will be a major focus of our development in the next several years. I am confident that Prof. Wong will steer OUHK to new heights despite the challenges ahead."
Prof. Wong thanked the Council for the trust in him. He will continue to work relentlessly with all staff, students and alumni in the next four years to develop OUHK into a quality, comprehensive university to serve the well-being of the Hong Kong society.
