In order to promote effective teaching and enhance the quality of education, all English teachers holding a permanent post in a public-sector school or a local private primary/secondary day school offering a full curriculum must meet the Language Proficiency Requirement (LPR). The objective is to ensure that all language teachers possess at least basic language proficiency. Teachers are also encouraged to strive for higher levels of language proficiency, and to enhance their professionalism in subject knowledge and pedagogy through training.
The School of Education and Languages has been a cradle of language teachers over the years. The School has recently introduced a new Master of Education (MEd) programme. The new programme, MEd in English Language Teaching, is specially designed for postgraduate students who wish to attain a deep understanding of applied English linguistics as well as theories and practices of English language learning and teaching.
This is a one-year full-time programme. Graduates of the programme will have gained a strong academic foundation in practical English language teaching skills and expertise in teaching English in a variety of contexts.
The programme is now open for application. Please click here for more details.
